After that time, Tiffania, Rikkan, and another wizard were brought in for questioning by Ulfric Lawspeaker of the Illumanatti. Ulfric questioned Tiffania about some thefts from various shops in town committed by rats or rat-like creatures.
Afterwards, they decided to investigate the thefts in order to ensure that their names were cleared. Lady Belmont investigated "Stay Out" where she learned that You had been drugged and the shop burgled, but that other cats weren't so lucky. Investigating the ally near dead cats they found a dead ratling with some drow poison and an ingredient list.
Clearing away rubble in the back of the cave they found Grig Wormslayer, a Duergar wizard with his feet eaten off, kept prisoner by the ratlings. They were forcing him to craft scrolls for them to enhance their magical powers.
Grig would not come back up to the surface, but they helped him into some of the upper layers of the Caves before the Tunnels. Grig had the crafting path and he agreed to craft magical items for the party to pay off the costs of regeneration magic and the replacement of his own magical spellbooks and equipment that were lost to the ratlings. He also taught the party either Scribe Scroll or Cyper Magic as a bonus feat.
As Grig was a neutral evil duergar, Lady Belmont found it to be her duty to convert him away from his evil ways, buying his regeneration and spending a 8 days with the party down in the tunnels in discussion and sermon with the wizard, risking him growing angry and losing their only crafter. However, their arguments were successful, and Grig adopted a more neutral stance on the world. While he is not a guest, he does stay on as an NPC crafter for the party, crafting things at standard cost.
The party turned in the stolen merchandise to the illumanatti to clear their name, and got ready for an expedition to the Mirror Dungeon. They entered the tunnels and rested outside the entrance to the dungeon- ready to explore.
